Prothetic Consonants & Irregular Verbs

Belarusian adds в or г before certain vowels at the start of words. This is called a 'prothetic consonant' and is a distinctive feature of Belarusian phonetics.

вуліца (not уліца) — street

вока (not ока) — eye

вушы (not ушы) — ears

гэта (not эта) — this

Some verbs have special changes in their conjugation:

These two adverbs look similar but have different meanings:

дома — at home (location) — Я дома. = I am at home.

дамоў — homeward (direction) — Я іду дамоў. = I'm going home.
