Belarusian month names are unique — unlike Russian, they are based on nature and seasonal activities, similar to Polish, Czech, and Ukrainian. They are NOT written with a capital letter in Belarusian (unlike English).
студзень (January) — from 'стужа' (cold)
люты (February) — 'fierce' (cold)
сакавік (March) — from 'сок' (sap rising in trees)
красавік (April) — from 'краса' (beauty, blooming)
май/травень (May) — 'трава' (grass)
чэрвень (June) — from 'чырвоны' (red berries)
ліпень (July) — from 'ліпа' (linden tree)
жнівень (August) — from 'жніво' (harvest)
верасень (September) — from 'верас' (heather)
кастрычнік (October) — from 'кастрыца' (hemp stalks)
лістапад (November) — 'ліст + падаць' (leaf fall)
сьнежань (December) — from 'сьнег' (snow)
