Nominative case — singular and plural

The nominative case is the 'dictionary form' of a noun — the form used for the subject of a sentence. It answers the questions Хто? (Who?) and Што? (What?). Example: **Дом** стары́. — The **house** is old. (Дом is in the nominative.)

You already know these from the gender lesson:

Plural endings depend on gender and stem type:

When stress moves between singular and plural, akannie kicks in and the spelling changes:

дом → дамы́ — stress moves to ending → о becomes а

вакно́ → во́кны — stress moves to stem → а becomes о

Vocabulary
