Every Belarusian verb has an aspect:
• Imperfective (незакончаны від) — ongoing, repeated, or habitual action
• Perfective (закончаны від) — completed, one-time action with a result
Я чытаю кнігу. — I am reading a book. (imperfective — process)
Я прачытаю кнігу. — I will read (finish) the book. (perfective — result)
Perfective verbs are usually formed by adding a prefix to the imperfective: на-, з-/с-, пра-, вы-, пры-, пад-, ад-, у-. Some pairs are suppletive (completely different stems).
