Давальны склон — каму? чаму?
The dative case answers the questions каму? (to whom?) and чаму? (to what?). It marks the indirect object — the person or thing that receives something or benefits from an action.
Я пішу сябру. — I write to a friend. (сябар → сябру)
Дай кнігу брату. — Give the book to the brother. (брат → брату)
The dative is used: • With indirect objects (giving, sending, writing to someone) • After certain verbs: дзякаваць (to thank), дапамагаць (to help), радзіць (to advise), шкодзіць (to harm), вучыць (to teach) • In age expressions: Мне дзесяць гадоў. (I am ten years old.)
Дзякую табе! — Thank you! (ты → табе)
Я дапамагаю маме. — I help mom. (мама → маме)
Мне дзесяць гадоў. — I am ten years old. (я → мне)
Personal pronouns in the dative case: • я → мне (to me) • ты → табе (to you) • ён → яму (to him) • яна → ёй (to her) • яно → яму (to it) • мы → нам (to us) • вы → вам (to you, formal/plural) • яны → ім (to them) Examples: • Дай мне кнігу. — Give me a book. • Я скажу яму. — I'll tell him. • Напішы ёй ліст. — Write her a letter.
