Ў (с кароткай / 'short u') is unique to Belarusian — no other language uses this letter. It's pronounced like English 'w' in 'cow'.
Key rule: Ў only appears after a vowel — never at the start of a word, never after a consonant. It 'closes' a syllable. (In Lacinka, it's written as 'ŭ'.)
