You now know enough letters to read a real Belarusian conversation. This is the opening dialogue from Pashkievich's textbook. Read it through, then we'll practice the vocabulary.

Па дарозе ў школу — On the way to school

This is the textbook's classical Tarashkievich orthography. 'Ня ведаю' is written as two words (modern standard: «не ведаю»).

Віця: Добры дзень, Ганна! — Good day, Hanna!
Ганна: Добры дзень, Віця, як маешся? — Good day, Vitsia, how are you?
Віця: Дзякуй, добра. А ты? — Thanks, well. And you?
Ганна: О, я вельмі добра! Учора мы выйгралі ў сетку. — Oh, I'm very well! Yesterday we won at volleyball.
Віця: А, праўда. Віншую! — Oh, that's right. Congratulations!
Ганна: Дзякуй, Віця. А дзе Вера? — Thanks, Vitsia. And where is Vera?
Віця: Вера ўжо ў школе. А вось і Юрка! — Vera is already at school. And here's Yurka!
Ганна: Хто гэта? Я ня ведаю яго. — Who is this? I don't know him.
Віця: Юрка новы вучань. Юрка, хадзі сюды! — Yurka is a new student. Yurka, come here!
Юрка: Добры дзень! — Good day!
Віця: Хадзем хутчэй, бо спознімся. — Let's hurry, because we'll be late.
