The Sly Fox — Complete Tale

This tale uses grammar from all of Section III: future tense (пакажу — perf. future), imperatives (ідзі, апусьці), aspects (ашукала — perf. past), adjective declension (хітрай лісой — inst. fem.), all cases, and plural forms (жывёлы — nom. pl.).

• Жыла-была хітрая ліса. — Once upon a time there lived a sly fox.
• Аднаго дня яна сустрэла вялікага ваўка. — One day she met a big wolf.
• «Ідзі за мной, я пакажу табе шмат рыбы!» — сказала ліса. — 'Follow me, I'll show you lots of fish!' — said the fox.
• Воўк пайшоў за хітрай лісой. — The wolf followed the sly fox.
• Яна прывяла яго да рачкі і сказала: «Апусьці хвост у ваду!» — She led him to a stream and said: 'Put your tail in the water!'
• Воўк слухаў і сядзеў доўга. Хвост замёрз! — The wolf listened and sat for a long time. His tail froze!
• А ліса ўцякла і сьмяялася. — And the fox ran away and laughed.
• Потым яна ашукала і мядзьведзя, і пеўня, і ката. — Then she tricked the bear, the rooster, and the cat too.
• Але аднаго дня ўсе жывёлы сабраліся і сказалі: «Даволі!» — But one day all the animals gathered and said: 'Enough!'
• З таго часу ліса жыве адна ў цёмным лесе. — Since then the fox lives alone in the dark forest.
