The instrumental case (кім? чым?) expresses the instrument or means, and follows the preposition з (with): • з сябрам — with a friend • ручкай — with a pen The dative case (каму? чаму?) expresses the indirect object: • Я пішу сябру. — I write to a friend. • Мне дзесяць гадоў. — I am ten years old. Remember: instrumental answers "with what / by whom", dative answers "to whom / for whom".
