Demonstratives & Location

Гэ́та, вось, тут, там

Гэ́та, вось, тут, там

**Гэ́та** is the most common way to point to or identify something or someone: - Гэта школа. — This is a school. - Гэта Ганна. — This is Hanna. - Хто гэта? — Who is this? Don't confuse 'гэ́та' (this is) with 'гэ́ты / гэ́тая / гэ́тае' (this — as adjective forms, agreeing with nouns in gender).

Гэ́та шко́ла. — This is a school.

Гэ́та но́вы ву́чань. — This is a new student.

Хто гэ́та? — Who is this?

**Вось** draws attention to something, like 'here is' or 'there' when pointing: - Вось і яны. — Here they are. - Вось школа. — Here's the school. 'Вось' always implies pointing or presenting something.

Вось і яны́. — Here they are.

Вось шко́ла. — Here's the school.

А вось і Ю́рка. — And here's Yurka.

**Тут** means 'here' — indicating location near the speaker: - Ён тут. — He is here. - Школа тут. — The school is here.

Ён тут. — He is here.

Шко́ла тут. — The school is here.

**Там** means 'there' — indicating location away from the speaker: - Хто гэта там? — Who is that over there? - Школа там. — The school is there.

Хто гэ́та там? — Who is that there?

Шко́ла там. — The school is there.

Ён там. — He is there.
