At Home in the Evening

Дома падвечар

A family evening at home

In this lesson you'll read a family dialogue that reviews vocabulary from Units 2–5: greetings, family words, pronouns, days of the week, and numbers. Pay attention to how the family members describe what they're doing.

Дома падвечар — At home in the evening

'Робіць урокі' literally means 'does lessons' — the standard way to say 'doing homework'. 'Сёньня' means 'today' in Tarashkievica spelling (with soft -нь-).

  • Тата: Добры вечар! Я дома! — Good evening! I'm home!
  • Мама: Добры вечар! Як маешся? — Good evening! How are you?
  • Тата: Добра, дзякуй. А дзе дзеці? — Fine, thanks. Where are the children?
  • Мама: Ганна робіць урокі, а Віця чытае кнігу. — Hanna is doing homework, and Vitsia is reading a book.
  • Тата: А бабуля? Дзе яна? — And grandma? Where is she?
  • Мама: Яна глядзіць тэлевізар. Сёньня панядзелак — яе серыял. — She is watching TV. Today is Monday — her show.
  • Тата: А што на вячэру? — And what's for dinner?
  • Мама: Бульба з мясам і салата. Хочаш гарбату? — Potatoes with meat and salad. Do you want tea?
  • Тата: Так, калі ласка. І хлеб з маслам. — Yes, please. And bread with butter.
  • Мама: Добра. Дзеці! Вячэра гатовая! — Okay. Children! Dinner is ready!
